Portrait Photography From Venezuela
Posted on August 1st, 2013
Earlier this year, Janette Beckman and I went to Caracas, Venezuela to teach at the Roberto Mata School of Photography. We had a spectacular time, and were so impressed with the school and our students. So I thought I would take this opportunity to show some of their work here on Stellazine.
All of our students are hobby photographers—although that in no way diminishes their talent. Their enthusiasm, talent and energy made working with them one of the best experiences I have ever had.
So without further ado, here is a selection of their portrait work. You can see some of the work they did with us, here

I’ll be showing more of the student’s work in the coming weeks this summer. It’s always great to look again at work that really impressed me, by photographers who love taking photos, and who Janette and I would love to see again.
The work is beautiful. I’m especially struck by how wounded the transvestites look–as if brutality of all kinds had shaped them.
